Find Out What's Happening this Halloween Season at The Fear Farm!

Home » Blog » South Carolina Haunts: An In Depth Look

SouthCarolinaHauntedHouses.com recently sat down with Matt Davis of Fear Farm, to discuss what's new at Fear Farm for the 2017 Halloween Season! Located in Blacksburg, Fear Farm offers over 8,000 square feet of scares for thrill seekers to brave, featuring multiple haunted attractions at one great location!

What's new at Fear Farm for 2017? Do you have any new rides, attractions, or special features that Haunt Seekers should know about?

2017 is going to be our biggest year yet! We started working right after Halloween last year to build 2 BRAND NEW attractions. Now, for one ticket you get 4 attractions! The new attractions are ABYSS, a complete darkness attraction, and FORGOTTEN an asylum themed corn maze. We also added a 5 minute escape room "Escape the Hotel" for only $5. You can't miss it this year!

What are you most excited about for the 2017 Halloween Season?

I'm excited about hearing all of our customers' reactions to the new attractions. We are also going to have a live DJ and we have really improved or midway, and que-line area this year.

What differentiates Fear Farm from other local haunts in South Carolina?

The Fear Farm is set on a truly haunted farm and now offers something to scare everyone. If you like indoor scares we have it, corn maze? We have it. Clowns? Check. Scare of the dark? We have it covered. I think we have truly become an entertainment venue not just an ordinary haunted house.

How long has Fear Farm been in business? Can you tell us a bit more about Fear Farm's history?

The Fear Farm started in 2010 and we have grown to be ranked one of the top haunted houses in the state by making large changes every year and making sure to keep our guests on their toes.

What's your favorite experience since opening Fear Farm?

I have so many good experiences, but I think my favorites are the groups that come back every year and some of them were only 8 years old when they started coming and now they are 15 and bringing dates. It's fun to know that they love The Fear Farm.

How long is a typical haunt experience at Fear Farm from start to finish?

Depending on the crowd the average customer will spend over an hour on the farm. There are things to do and see on the midway and 4 full attractions this year plus an escape room so if you do it all, plan on spending some time and getting the most scare for your buck!

On a scale from 1 to 10, how scary would you say Fear Farm is? Why?

We focus on elaborate sets and entertainment. We want everyone to have fun. Most people will tell you it's a 9 or 10 because they bury their heads into the person in front of them. Even if you don't "get scared" I guarantee we will make you jump. Even the biggest, baddest customers have come out and told us "you got me" so that makes up feel like we did our job.

Does Fear Farm's property have any real haunted history? Do you have a spooky encounter you'd like to share?

We think the farm is truly haunted. While we were building the original haunted house, the doors were on springs to keep them closed unless you physically pushed them. We would hear the doors open and slam and nobody would be there. We have also had lights in certain area start and stop and flicker for no apparent reason.

What inspired you to open up a haunted attraction? What's your favorite part of the business?

I have loved Halloween my entire life. I was born on October 13th so October has always been my favorite month and 13 my lucky number! I started scaring people on my front porch as a kid with a leaf blower because I wasn't old enough for a chainsaw. Haha I love the thrill of scaring and amazing people with all of the hard work we put in.

How has new technology (i.e. animatronics, special props, etc) helped you to enhance Fear Farm?

We have used lots more LED lights to help create a cool mood without overloading the power like old lights used to. We also have lots of animatronics and props scattered in so that customers can't really decide what is real and what's not. It's usually the opposite of what you think!

Can Fear Farm accommodate large groups? How many people can experience Fear Farm together as a group?

We welcome large groups! We have a big enough parking lot to accommodate buses and usually have lots of them each year. We don't put a cap on your group size, but we do recommend no more than 6-8 people going through the haunts at a time so that it keeps the scares good and everyone in the group gets a good experience. If you have over 13 people email us for a group discount.

Does Fear Farm offer any special deals, discounts, or coupons?

Follow us on Facebook for specials that will pop up throughout the season. A sure way to get a discount is to gather up 13 or more of your friends and get the group rate.
