Church of the Holy Cross Cemetery
Sumter, SC 29154
This church is haunted by numerous ghosts, but the two most frequently spotted are a confederate soldier and a woman in a tree. The soldier wanders the cemetery often stopping to look upon graves. The woman is more stationary, she sits in trees with low-hanging branches.

I’ve been to this church a lot and I can definitely confirm that it’s haunted. Every time I go there it feels like you’re being watched. The first time I went there I was just walking around checking out the headstones because there’s a lot of really old ones. I saw a shadowy figure of a tall man walking into one of the old family plots from the 1800s. It has a metal gate. That gate is old but still in hood enough condition that it wouldn’t just close by itself. Someone has to close it. No wind that night either. I think it’d be too heavy for wind anyway. But it moved after I saw the man disappear into the plot as if it was being closed behind him. On another trip I went back to see the graves in daylight and found out it was a grave of a soldier! A soldier is supposedly one of the ghosts often seen there. I believe that’s who I saw. I’ve also seen an apparat ion moving through the headstones just casually walking around. And i’ve smelt a strong perfumey floral smell that was strange because most of the graves are so old that it’s rare to find fresh flowers in the cemetery.

I went with my mother to visit my great grandfathers grave. I’ve never met this relative, he died in 1954 when my grandmother was 10 years old. I took a couple of pictures for my mom. Later tonight I was going through the photos and noticed something in the woods. I zoomed in and it was a face of a woman. What’s even creepier is while we were looking for my great-grandfather’s headstone. Something moved out the corner of my eye. It caused me to jump and look. When I looked, nothing was there. I walked over towards the group of headstones and sure enough. The spot that caught my eye with a black figure; was my great grandfather’s headstone.
