St. Helena Parish Chapel of Ease Ruins
St. Helena Island, SC 29920
Visitors to the ruins swear that a light always appear on Land's End. Although the light's origin and purpose is unknown, many individuals have attested to its legitimacy. In the 1970's scientific studies were conducted on the mysterious light, but to no avail. A popular theory among the public is that the light is the ghosts of slaves who were hanged at the aptly named, hanging tree. Other legends claim the ghost of a beheaded confederate soldier haunts the grounds. The church ruins are also haunted by spirits. When the crypts were sealed, workers returned the next day to find the bricks piled up to the side of the mausoleum.
