The story surrounding this cemetery includes a beautiful woman named Alice Flagg, the sister of a wealthy Dr. Allard Flagg who moved into The Hermitage in 1849. Alice was said to have fallen in love with a lumberman, but Dr. Flagg did not approve of the two being together, so he sent him away. Alice was upset with her brother and disregarded his wishes and met up with her lover in secret and got engaged. When her brother noticed the ring on her finger, he demanded that she return it. So Alice hid the ring on a ribbon underneath her dress. Alice was sent away to boarding school in Charleston, where she became sick with malaria. Dr. Flagg brought her home, where she later died. When he discovered her ring, he took it off and threw it into the marsh. Alice was buried in the All Saints Cemetery without her ring, under a plain marble slab that only says "Alice." Her spirit is said to linger, in her white dress, and is said to walk out the front door of the Hermitage and into the cemetery, clutching one hand to her chest, hoping she will find her ring.
